Treat yourself without tricking your oral hygiene

We enjoy a little trick or treating ourselves, but there are ways to do so while protecting your teeth from harm this Halloween!

Happy Halloween!

Whether you enjoy taking the kids trick-or-treating, or you go all out with house decorations, fancy dress and pumpkin carving, Halloween can be a fun time of year for families and people of all ages. The sugary treats are just one perk of the season – while we would certainly never ask you to forgo these altogether, we do want to help you enjoy them while taking care of your teeth and gums!

At all times of year, it's important to be aware that what you eat and drink impacts your oral health. Anything with lots of sugar should be eaten sparingly, at mealtimes if possible, and followed by a drink of water or sugar-free chewing gum to help wash away the bacteria and prevent the formation of dental plaque. Similarly, anything that is acidic (think fizzy drinks and citrus fruits) should be enjoyed in moderation too. Reduced snacking and finishing off a meal with water or milk can help to keep the teeth and gums healthy as well.
