How We Treat Dental Emergencies
- Your emergency appointment will include:
- Assessment and diagnosis
- We identify the source of the problem using clinical examination and, if required, X-rays.
- Immediate pain relief
Our priority is to stop your discomfort as quickly as possible.
Stabilising treatment
Depending on the cause, this may include:
- temporary or permanent fillings
- root canal treatment for severe toothache
- repairing or replacing crowns, veneers or bridges
- draining infection
- extractions if a tooth cannot be saved
- managing gum or wisdom tooth infections
A follow-up plan
You will leave with clear instructions and a recommendation for any necessary ongoing treatment.
Emergency Treatment Options
- Root Canal Treatment (for severe toothache or infection)
Often required when pain is severe or an abscess has formed. Root canal therapy removes infection and protects the tooth from further damage.
- Dental Crowns or Fillings (for broken or cracked teeth)
If a tooth is structurally damaged, we repair it with a high-quality filling or a dental crown.
- Extractions (when a tooth cannot be saved)
If the tooth is beyond repair, we gently remove it and discuss replacement options such as dental implants or bridges.
- Wisdom Tooth Pain
We treat impacted or infected wisdom teeth and, if needed, offer surgical removal under local anaesthetic or sedation.
What to Do Before Your Appointmen
- Avoid chewing on the affected side
- Take over-the-counter pain relief if needed (unless medically advised otherwise)
- Apply a cold compress for swelling
- Keep any broken pieces of tooth or restorations
- Avoid extremely hot or cold foods
